i transmitted my website code from windows to ubuntu. It is written with charset iso-8859-1 and noted in <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1". Ubuntu uses the charset UTF-8 as standard, but the file command shows the text still as iso-8859-1.
Running from localhost the german umlaut characters are shown as mutated vowels while running from the web server they are all displayed correctly.
It seems Firefox ignores the charset statement from the localhost, but respects it from the webserver.

I would like to keep charset iso-8859-1, since I would use the windows and the linux site as well.

Thanks for help!

seems my text has been totally distorted, so I repeat the problem here:

I transmitted my website code from windows to ubuntu. It is written with charset iso-8859-1 and noted in meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1". But running from localhost on ubuntu, all german umlaut characters are changed whereas they are shown correctly when running from the website. That means to me, Firefox ignores the charset statement from localhost, but respects it from the web server. I would like to keep charset iso-8859-1, since I would use the windows and the linux site as well.

Thanks for help!
