Just a thought Could this be anything related to having multiple email addresses in the same place I have both gmail's, hotmail and none standard email account It allowed me to transfer the lot over and all worked well until I rebooted them it wouldn't launch after the reboot

Does the error appear on a grey background at the bottom of the window? Run in safe mode (hold Shift when you launch TB) and see if there's a difference.

Hi sfhowes, first of all many many thanks. Runing in safe mode got me back up and running after two extremely frustrating days. I'm not sure exactly what limitation safe mode enforces or if I can run this permanently - but for now I can get my backlog cleared. Does this point to a specific problem? Again many thanks Pete

If it works in safe mode, you likely have either an incompatible add-on or a broken layout. Launch again in safe mode, check 'Disable all add-ons' and 'Reset toolbars and controls', then 'Make changes and restart'. Does it now work in normal mode? If so, you should re-enable add-ons one-at-a-time and test for incompatibilities.

Looks like this could be the problem but I can't see how to disable it

It's already disabled, but you may as well Remove it (click the ... icon), since there's no version (yet) for 78. Did TB work properly after 'Make changes and restart'?

As you can see in the mozillazine article in my first reply, safe mode applies a number of restrictions. Since you have apparently ruled out add-ons and layout, look at the other factors. In TB normal mode, is hardware acceleration enabled in Options/General/Indexing? If it is, uncheck the box and see if TB works properly in normal mode.

Are you running TB 78 on a profile that was run in 68, or is this a new profile created by 78?

I was running on TB 68 and transfered the profile from this to 78 I unchecked the Indexing but still won't run

I got the same problem in 78.2.1 I cannot start TB in safemode, nothing happens when i start with shift, (maybe some issue keyboard issue, i'm using a DK layout) i just made a succesfull upgrade from 68 to 78, but when i changed the program language to Danish, i got this error, and now i'm stuck!, is there some ini/settings file, where i can change back to english, without starting TB?

UPDATE: i found out how to open TB in safe-mode, using command-line, but i have no idea how to fix the problem. The option "Diasable alle add-ons", "Reset toolbars and controls" > "Make changes and Restart" is tested, but did not help.

UPDATE2: TB Uninstall > Install > Profile copy/rename solved the problem, case closed

My TB 72.2.2, 72.3.0, 71.1.0 produce almost identical error log. My TB was updated from 68.12.0 to 78.2.2 from then on TB couldn't download any mails (POP3), 3 accounts. I tried safe mode in 72.2, 72.3 and 71.1 as well as deactivating and de-installing all add-ons etc. I also removed all languages except for language used by my OS (Win10) (German) and ALL dictionaries. I tried setting language to English but only other language offered was Catalan!? (WTF) nothing helped solving the problem: can't download any new mails from POP3 accounts.

As proposed here I also tried 71.1.0, didn't make a difference I wanted to go back to 68.12 but profile not compatible

Hallo Zusammen,

Ich habe auch ein Problem nach dem ich Thunderbird neu installiert habe auf Windows 10 habe ich meine Profile Kopiert und alles ist gegangen am nächsten tag nach einem Neustart kommt immer dieses graue Kästchen mit ID=MessengerWindow nach einer neu Installation ist es immer noch so. Beim starten im Abgesicherten Modus geht alles ohne Problem . Leider finde ich den Fehler nicht? Das Alte Profil wurde von eigenem Alten Rechner mit Windows 7 Kopiert.

Kann mir jemand bitte Helfen .
