Hello, today I was surprised with a update ver.88 -> 89. It completely changed the look. Few weeks back it was similar with Thunderbird.

I hate this look. I want old look back - how to do this. I tried rollback to 88, but it ask to create new profile - after copying all content of profile it dose not work...

Is there a way to change look of 89 to look exactly like 88 ?

why why why .. again ..

I was succeed getting rid of the super ugly 89 interface by 2 ways, the second needs some basic user skills but brings even better effect !

Solution 1

Do the following:

1) Open Firefox and type about:config into the address bar. 2) Hit Enter and click on I Accept the risk to proceed. 3) In the search box, enter proton. 4) To disable Proton UI in Firefox, set the following values to false:

browser.proton.enabled
browser.proton.modals.enabled
browser.proton.doorhangers.enabled
browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled

This will immediately restore the classic appearance of the Firefox browser.

If you have any issues with the new design, please let us know what it is you don't like, and we can try provide more permanent solutions depending on the issue.

Solution 2

1) Open Firefox and type about:config into the address bar. 2) Hit Enter and click on I Accept the risk to proceed. 3) In the search box, enter toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets. and set it to true 4) In the search box, enter svg.context-properties.content.enabled. and set it to true 5) download the two CSS files from the project's Github repository. Select userChrome.css first to display it on GitHub, then the RAW button to display it, and right-click on the page and use Save As to download it. The filename should be userChrome.css on your computer. Repeat the steps for the userContent.css file.

6) Open Firefox and type about:support into the address bar and hit Enter 7) activate the "show folder" button next to Profile Folder; this opens the profile folder in the file browser on the system. You may close Firefox now.

8) Create a "chrome" folder in the profile root if it does not exist. Place the two files, userChrome.css and userContent.css, inside the chrome folder, and start Firefox again.

The above will finaly change the new ugly and useless 89's interface noticeably.

MOZILLA developers, please listen voices of your users ! 89 is VERY UGLY and useless ! We like you SO MUCH AND SO MANY YEARS because you always were listening your supporters and you were care about us not as other junk browsers makers ! Hope the next change you will do to my favorite browser will not disappoint us as much as the last one. Thank you !

Have to agree with some posters above - just downloaded the new version, was expecting no big things but just security updates and such, and then get my eyes attacked with this new floating tabs! I loved the previous ones which give me a highlighted dot for my email tabs so I can see if I have new email - on this floaty foggy background now totally invisible! That the layout of all sorts of websites now gets updated to "must work on mobile devices for people with very thick fingers" now spreads to firefox has me very very very unhappy to say the least. Why oh why is there no option in this modern world of 2021 to just say "get me the desktop version" and have the option to set a background colour the colour I want? What the heck... I do not want to use the "Dark Theme" but the new light one is like trying to find a tiny small traffic sign in the middle of a thick fog. Who on earth thought that would be a great idea?? And while I am on it why do I have now even smaller icons for my favourite websites and more white space around them? Is that also the "mobile devices for people with very thick fingers" thing? Why can't I choose the size of these icons myself? Very unhappy....

Hi, new to forums as never had any issues with FF ever until just now. I am completely taken aback at the way it all looks - which is horrid - and its not just that I am used to the last UI but it was close on perfect, especially with the colours. Its the main reason I stick with W7 as W10 is just too harsh for my eyes. Now FF has done the same?

I created this theme on yesterday for another FF89 user. Feel free to give it go. My suggestion is to go the site at below link. Next right click on toolbar > customize toolabar > theme selector > Turn browser "white". Next swithc back to websiet and apply the theme:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dbbenroseysky/

I've made other changes too, like restoring icons in the options drop down. But still working on best way to provide the necessary files for people (all over the world)  :-)

Hi Thanks for that, I have installed the theme - it works a treat! Really appreciate this. Why oh why is that not build into the upgrade...

I'm glad you liked the theme. I had searched for something like this for several years. but never any joy. however, i was inspired to do it for an elderly FF user with vision issues. After i did the theme, i was taken back to the old days of when browsers where simple as well as their colors.

Thanks again  :-)

I have an update on the status of 89 on my own PC:

When it first uploaded I was appalled. Yesterday I tried an update of MS 10, which was a disaster - took forever to load, half of it didn't work, overheated the CPU. I turned it off and went to bed disgruntled.

This morning - after vacuuming a lot of very fine cat hair off of the fans - I uninstalled and reinstalled the MS 10 updates. This time it loaded in under a minute (it was more than an hour in process last night, insofar as it did load - I don't pay for lightning speeds). Works better and much faster to load.

I opened Firefox, which automatically updated from 88 to 89 without my permission. [Envision eye roll here.] But here's the thing. It's not nearly as offensive as it was. So maybe the community has repaired a lot of the glitches, and probably my own PC had its own problems too.

I still think there's way to much wasted space at the top of the browser window, but I assume people will find a solution to that and I can format it as I prefer. I'll keep my eyes open on the support forums.

Good luck to all of you!
