Hi Juan, I understand that Firefox not automatically updating upon force restarting the app can be frustrating. Unfortunately, we cannot control how Firefox updates on Apple mobile devices. To update the app, you can simply follow these steps:
- From the Home screen (unlocked), navigate to the App Store (swipe down, then search for it if you need to).
- Click on your Apple ID Profile icon, located in the top right of the screen.
- On the main content, pull down the content and let go to refresh the page.
- Now scroll down until you find an update for Firefox, then press the "Update" button, which should be next to the name. Note that if Firefox doesn't appear, there is no update currently available.
I hope this helps, and apologies if there are any inconveniences.

Followed your instructions, but the browser does NOT update.
It is stuck in a loop that does not accept the latest version 126.0 and keeps downloading Firefox 126.0
Why does it not automatically update?
Hi Juan, I'm sorry to hear your frustrations in updating Firefox for iOS.
It does appear that the latest version for Firefox on iOS is v126.1. There is an official Apple Support post on manually updating apps, found [here].
As the steps did not work for you, however, the solutions found in [this article] may be of more assistance. If you can provide screenshots of the update page, that can greatly speed up this process.
iOS should automatically be updating apps. The Firefox team has no control over how or when the app updates on Apple devices.
Cheers!
Maybe I am not explaining properly. I am only using Firefox on my Macbook Air, running Sonoma 14.5. I have the settings for automatic updates. Chrome and Brave automatically update by simply notifying me that there is an update and I need to close them and open them again. If I do this, they automatically update. I would like to proceed in the same manner with Firefox. Is this possible?
Hi Juan,
I apologise for the confusion. It appears that you originally posted this in the iOS (mobile) support forum, despite your issue occurring on macOS (desktop). One of our moderators have moved this to the appropriate forum.
To enable automatic updates on Firefox for macOS (desktop), please follow these steps:
- Click the menu icon , located in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Click on "Settings", near the bottom of the popup menu.
- In the search bar (labelled "Find in Settings"), search for "update" OR scroll down until you see the "Firefox Updates" section. You can manually update Firefox here.
- Under "Allow Firefox to", select "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" to match the behavior you have described (this will not automatically update Firefox, you'll have to confirm the update every time there is one). Feel free to choose any other setting here if you wish.

I hope this helped. Enjoy a great rest of your day!
