Cloudflare DNS over HTTPS

I'm running the latest version of Firefox on Win 11 64 bit.

In looking through settings, I noticed that DNS over HTTPS, which is set to the Cloudflare default, is inactive and giving the error (NS_ERROR_NET_INTERRUPT). Using NextDNS is fine.

The problem is not unique to FF, as another Chrome-based browser has the same problem, and I have switched that to OpenDNS.

I have been through all the possible causes and diagnostics for Cloudflare not working (firewall, running FF in safe mode etc.) but can't see anything.

However, I did download the Cloudflare desktop application, and when this is running in background, the Cloudflare DNS/HTTPS settings work perfectly in both FF and the other browser.

Whilst I can of course keep using the other DNS providers, I'd prefer Cloudflare, but I don't really want to have yet another app running and consuming resources, which would be the case with Cloudflare.

If anyone has any suggestions for why Cloudflare isn't working, or how to fix it, I'd welcome them. I have searched high and low for more information, both here and elsewhere, but if such exists, I haven't found it.

You should contact the cloudflare support about setting up their software to work correctly on your network.

Thanks, but as far as I can see, Cloudflare is provided by Mozilla as the default DNS server, and shouldn't require any special setups on the Cloudflare side. Looking at the config settings, and apart from any others and their meaning, the relevant ones seem to be:-

network.connectivity-service.DNS_HTTPS.domain cloudflare-dns.com network.trr.custom_uri mozilla.cloudflare-dns.com. network.trr.default_provider_uri https://mozilla.cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query

Presumably the other associated settings may contain something which is specific to Cloudflare in this context, which may explain why other DNS servers work OK. If running the WARP app allows the connection, then I guess there must be something in the Firefox settings which relates to this.

That the WARP app enables Cloudflare to run OK suggests that firewalls etc. are not an issue.

I have tried various other things such as setting the Cloudflare url (as above) as a Custom setting, but this immediately shows as Cloudflare(Default) with the error in my first post.

I will try to ask this question of Cloudflare, but looking through their support site, there is a paucity of information regarding it, and Firefox. I feel that the question, assuming I get to ask it, will tell me to go back to Mozilla.
