Read Aloud is not producing sound in Thunderbird 128.7.1esr (64-bit), Windows 11 Pro. The app does highlight the text it is reading and progresses through the email, but there is no sound. I have checked various voices and tried to sound test the Piper voices. No luck. Windows Narrator (not ideal) will read the emails. I have checked every sound setting I can think of several times. I contacted Read Aloud support and they were unable to resolve my issue; they did confirm it worked in their Thunderbird app.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Monica

Solução escolhida

Solution: System-->Sound-->Volume mixer-->Apps Mozilla Thunderbird was set to mute. Unmute.

There are two apps listed there: Firefox and Thunderbird. I do not understand why they're there or how they got there, and that will have to wait for another day.

Thanks for the suggestions. I disabled other add-ons and that did not change anything.

I thought it might be a Windows setting, because I do not receive email sound notifications either. Thunderbird Incoming Mail setting is set to Play a sound-->Default system sound -->Play and no sound. *The above solution resolved this issue as well.

I followed a previous answer without resolution: open Windows Settings, type sounds in the Search box, select 'Change system sounds' to open the Sound control panel, and see if New Mail Notification is set to play a sound Then, open Settings, System, Notifications & actions, Get notifications from these senders, click on Mozilla Thunderbird and see if sounds are enabled.

You might check if any other addons installed and disable them. Otherwise, this is best pursued with developer.

I installed the add-on in TB 128/W11 and it seems to work as advertised. You might have an issue with sounds in Windows, and the first thing I'd try is run the Audio troubleshooter in Windows Settings.
