Many times URLs are present in a webpage in plain text form and not in a clickable link form. Currently, I copy that URL, open a new tab and then paste the URL in the location bar and visit that URL. I wonder if it is possible to highlight the text, right click and somehow open a new tab loaded with that URL. Is there a feature like that that I am missing?

A couple of options, you can use the Paste and Go 3 add-on. With a url in the clipboard, you can right-click on the location bar and select "Paste and Go" to load the page. This functionality will be built into Firefox 4.

Another way to open text links is with an add-on such as Text2Link or Plain Text Links which add an option to the context menu when you select a text link to open that link.

I use the Text Link extension to make to open text links with a double click, just like normal links.
You can set action for double clicking and the Shift and Ctrl modifier in the options of that extension.

What I'm currently using is a free tool "Click. to".

Download link: http://www.clicktoapp.com/de

It blends a satellite bar besides the copied url string, on which the website link shows. Just click on the link and a new tab will be opened.

As fast as a directly click on a hyperlink anywhere.
