Cannot open a new tab have to get a link and open in new tab.

I cannot open a new tab either by clicking on the button on the tool bar, going to File/Open New Tab or CTRL T. I think this happened after I upgraded to the newest version of Firefox. The only way I can get a new tab is to click on a bookmark or link and right click and select Open in New Tab. Very frustrating.

This issue can be caused by the Ask.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)

That was exactly right and I now can open new tabs by clicking on the button. Phew. What a difference. Thank you so much.
