Just had memory upgraded in my Dell Optiplex desktop running Windows XP Home w/ SP3. Windows explorer runs as before. Both Firefox and Thunderbird text is an unrecognizable gibberish of some code/font. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no relief. Web page text is in English, but all other test, to include tool bars, are gibberish.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Did you check the encoding?

  • Firefox > Web Developer > Character Encoding
  • View > Character Encoding

Try to disable the website fonts as a test and try a few different default (serif/sans-serif) fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced ([ ] Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above)
