Since upgrading to Firefox 7.0.1 it hangs, crashes, and causes Windows XP to reboot

I upgraded to the new version and now the pages will freeze, the browser will crash frequently, and at times it causes my XP to reboot. One suggested solution was to update my graphics driver, but it is current according to Dell. Most of the time the pages freeze. Closing and restarting usually fixes this, but it leads to the browser crashing with a report to be sent. Then occasionally the CPU will just stop and reboot. the frequency of all of these seems to be getting worse
