i accidentally did something that set my window so that i could not see the website that i was on or the back/forward buttons. how do i get it back?

You probably went into Full Screen mode on your Mac by pressing "command+Shift+F", you can toggle back out of it by pressing "command+Shift+F" again. It is a very useful keyboard shortcut. On other systems that shortcut is "F11".
