After upgrading to Firefox 12, my Tab Bar has reverted back to being on top of the address bar.

How do I make it go back below the address bar and quick links?

All of the information that I have found seems to be out-of-date.

You can change this preference manually until someone figures out where it has moved in the UI.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste tabs and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click browser.tabs.onTop to switch it from true to false to move the tabs below the toolbars.

Hi,

I'm sorry you were unable to find this information, to change the tabs back to below the location bar, you can either right-click or control+click an empty area of the tab strip and then uncheck Tabs on Top in the menu that appears. (If you have more than a dozen tabs open you can find this menu under Firefox > View > Toolbars).

This article has screenshots and detailed steps : Common questions after upgrading from Firefox 3.6

Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks, Michelle

Unfortunately this does not work as the switch cannot be found upon right clicks on menu and other toolbars; using Firefox 15.0 beta.

TIA everyone.

Success, thanks and I voted !

Firefox 15+ versions only show "Tabs on Top" in the (context) menu if the tabs are not in the default position on top.
If the tabs are on top then you can only move them down by toggling the above mentioned browser.tabs.onTop pref on the about:config

Thanks for the (same) answers that work.

Might Mozilla make this a toggle perhaps ?

Thanks. It just worked for me also. Damn, you know a lot.

Is there a similar trick for Thunderbird?

I can't see how you'd do an "about:config" and there's nothing in prefs.js for Thunderbird that mentions tabs

Hi Andy_P, I don't use Thunderbird, but they have a separate support forum where you could ask: http://support.mozillamessaging.com/

Hi jscher, many thanks for that. I've posted there now.

Incidentally, I got an automatic email from notifications@support.mozilla.org telling me about your reply.

But I found it in my Junk mail folder!

I find many genuine mails to me are erroneously marked as junk, but for Thunderbird to do it to emails from it's own organisation seems very strange! :-)
