I have started to notice bogus hyperlinks appearing on websites. They will even aippear as I am looking. They link to "competition" websites where I can win an IPad, etc. How do I stop this happening?

I guess you have some sort of adware installed. See for instance this thread /questions/774975.

Rather dificult to answer until we know what it is but see
