As usual, the Add-ons Manager check for updates indicated need to update Java - and STILL does NOT go to an update page with update button. After updating Java as suggested by Oracle, checked and found Add-on Manager STILL indicated need to update, so rebooted computer; checked Java control panel which indicated Java updated on my computer. Checked Add-on Manager and JAVA HAS DISAPPEARED FROM PLUGIN LIST! What now???? Do I have a Java Plugin or not? If so, why isn't it on the list of plugins? If not, how do I get a new plugin? Does not appear on list of available plugins.

It is most likely that you have a 64 bit java installation. On Windows Firefox is a 32bit application. You will need to install the 32 bit java jre or simply uninstall the 32 bit java installation and leave the 64 bit jre if you do not require the ability to use java applets.
