my spell checker in Thunderbird is turned on to spell check as I write it is now showing all words misspelled I have shut down and restarted Thunderbird as well as shut sown and restart my Mac Book Air no resolution to issue any ideas how to fix ?

in the compose window (In the actual compose space) right click and select language from the menu. Do you actually have a dictionary installed? It does not sound like it.
