Both my 'unsorted bookmarks' and 'recent bookmarks' have moved to the left sidebar - how to move them back to the centre?

With both of these categories now in the left sidebar (I don't know why they moved) it becomes very difficult to drag bookmarks from them, into the 'permanent' sidebar. I would like to move 'unsorted' and 'recent' back into the centre pane of the screen which is where they were previously. Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible if that is where you had them before?

You can use one of these to set which toolbars to show.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • View > Toolbars
Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button to restore the default toolbar setup

--- Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Hi, it sounds to me as if your bookmarks button and star has moved from its default location (right of search bar), to the left-hand side of the address or bookmarks toolbar.

You can drag it back in Customize mode: Open the 3-bar menu > Customize - Exit Customize to save.

Hi dogYot, It is easiest for everyone sticking to this original question.

From /questions/1070145
.... I am unable to drag 'recent' and 'unsorted' bookmarks into my 'permanent' folders in the left sidebar when they are are all in the left sidebar together. The 'recent' and 'unsorted' bookmarks should be in the centre-pane of the screen, where they always were. I don't know why this happened but it has been endless frustration. I thought of doing a 'restore Firefox Defaults' but don't want to risk losing my existing bookmarks. Any further help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think it is possible that nothing is wrong with your bookmarks, you have just moved folders around. If that is the case there is no reset or easy fix that will not be in danger of losing bookmarks. A screenshot my help us understand your problem (obscure names of bookmarks for privacy if necessary)

All your bookmarks are seen and controlled from the Bookmarks Library aka bookmarks manager. The sidebar on the left, the dropdown from the Bookmarks Icon or the dropdown from the bookmarks toolbar are merely different views or sections of the library. Use keyboard shortcut {Windows} Shift + Ctrl + B to see that

If you look at the above articles it will help confirm what is available and how it normally looks by default.

The Most Visited are usually on the bookmarks toolbar. You may display the bookmarks toolbar by using the customisations. A shortcut to that is to type into the addressbar about:customizing then use the toolbars options from the bottom left.

The Recently Bookmarked folder is usually at the top of your bookmarks menu.
