I've been saving web pages as "web pages, complete" but can't get any of them to open in Firefox or Chrome. I've tried opening every .htm file in the folders but hey only open as small icons etc. Can't get a single web page to load in complete form. Many folders don't have any .htm files at all.

How did you save the pages, and how are trying to open them?

As I said in my post: I'm saving them as "web pages, complete" (File>Save Page As), and trying to open them by opening every htm file (index.htm etc) in the save folder (File>Open File).

Update: I've tried some more saves and it's sometimes working now. If it saves the webpage as a single .htm file, it works. If it saves it as a folder with multiple files (including index.htm files), I can't get it to work.

Why does it save the webpage as a single file (where it works) in one case, but in a folder with multiple files (where it doesn't work for me) in another case?

I've spent a good two hours reading forums and articles trying to track down the problem. Can't understand what's going on. Any help would be appreciated.

I never had a problem with this, but I haven't done it in a long time.

Open your file browser to where those files are saved. Do the files open? Do not open their folders, just the main files.

Again, as I said in my first post, the individual files open but every one is some icon, menu header etc, including all of the index.htm files. No file will open and display the whole web page. I just have dozens of files that show fragments of the page.

As far as i know when saving a webpage as "complete" you will ALWAYS get both a "single file" and a whole "folder" for that webpage.

The single file is like a shortcut/executable for you to start through Firefox (or other programs).

The folder is there to store the data/info about the webpage so the single file actually has something to load.

You should always get both the single file and the folder (usually same name), and you have to have both to view a "complete" webpage offline. Always start the complete webpage through the single file - the contents of the folder are not meant to be used directly.

Bogdanov89,

Thanks, that helped me. It looks like all the single files outside the folders got deleted somehow. That's why I've been unable to open the web pages. At least I know what happened and can go from there.

Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them .html and .ini and .js and .txt and you may only see a file name without file extension. You can check the file extension (type) in the properties of the file in Windows Explorer via the right-click context menu.
