I randomly, on only some websites, get the untrusted error message. I've read other posted solutions and they haven't helped, and done all the steps at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/connection-untrusted-error-message, but still get the message, going on for weeks with latest version (43.01) For example https://www.icloud.com is one that well over half the time doesn't work, yet other times does. Also, my bank billpay site mostly connects but sometimes doesn't. These happen randomly and no change has been made to the PC... I'm just working along a it does this. When failing, the only remedy is close Firefox and restart it. The popup warning does not even give me the option of "I understand the risk", only "get me out of here" (see attached photo). Deleting the cert8.db does not help at all. Can you help me understand what else can I do? Thanks, Mike

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky and BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.

This Connection is Untrusted is sometimes caused because the computer system clock is wrong. Check the time / date / time zone settings.

If you can't inspect the certificate via "I Understand the Risks" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website.

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then you can attach a screenshot that shows the certificate viewer.
