how do i sort bookmarks Using firefox 43 in el capitan
When I open show all bookmarks and right click on bookmarks menu to sort by name the bookmarks are not sorting. In fact nothing happens. I always have to sort manually. This has been going on even prior to el capitan. What is the resolution?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

Thank you for your help. I installed and ran the places-maintenance addon as you suggested. The report tells me everything is fine there. I also checked to be certain places.sqlite is unlocked as you suggested. It was. Continues not to sort bookmarks. Are any other options available?
You are using "Sort By Name" in the right-click context menu and not the Views menu in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)?
The latter (Views menu) is only for viewing purposes and doesn't actually sort the bookmarks.
You can try to rename places.sqlite temporarily and remove the temporary places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal files to see if that has effect.
