Firefox itself should not be blocking any Flash Player downloads from say https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (make sure you uncheck the extras for Windows version) or to make sure you get just Flash Player see https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

You say "latest version of flash player for win XP" so were you downloading from Adobe or some other site?

Security Issue: Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 22.0.0.209 Flash Player (Linux) Version 11.2.202.632

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Direct link scans current system and browser Note: Other software is offered in the download.

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download.

Sorry, but when you say Firefox is blocking the file, could you describe that in more detail? If you mean on the downloads panel it says that the installer is possibly malware, make sure you are getting an official installer from Adobe. Fred and James gave the official addresses.

Hopefully someone didn't put Adobe's site on the blocklist...

Just for quick reference, some screenshots of what Firefox shows me when asking whether to save the installer file.

From the regular page:

  • flashplayer22_xa_install.exe
  • from admdownload.adobe.com

That's the quick download that needs to connect back to Adobe for more files.

If you get the full installer from the distribution page, it's a bit different:

  • install_flash_player_22_plugin.exe
  • from fpdownload.macromedia.com

Do those paths match what you see?

Thanks got it working but I have the same problem with Acrobat reader, do you have the best download link for that?

Hi chrismicro, do you use Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader? Either way, it is best to update from inside the stand-alone app. Click the Help menu, then Check for Updates.

For Adobe Reader, if you have a version older than XI (11), the version I would recommend is XI. You can choose that on this page:

https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

After installing, you'll still need to use Check for Updates because there have been several later updates for the XI series.
