Despite Options/Composition/Addressing set for Autocompletion, typing an email recipient NEVER finds a match in Address Book-just shows typing in Red.

Using all versions of T'Bird for many years, the current ones installed on W10 64-bit PC over the last year never bring up any Email Addresses from my Address Book. As I type I just get the entry in Red Typeface.

If I go to Tools/Address Book and select an entry then Write, the correct entry does appear in the 'To' box of the Write Dialogue. This is only useful for one recipient - for others I have to copy & paste entries from the address book to relevant TO/CC/BCC box(es).

Any cure would be much appreciated and save a lot of time. Thanks.

red means they are not in the address book.

Try restarting Thunderbird with add-ons disabled from the help menu. Does it address better?

Thanks - now OK. I disabled all add-ons and re-introduced one-by-one; the problem came from 'Addresses Autocomplete', an add-on from Softmaker. I remember now that I tried a version of Softmaker Office about 18 months ago and it installed its own version of Thunderbird even though I had an up-to-date version in use.
