Ever since updating to v. 50.0, I've been getting a whole lot more harddrive clicks than usual. It's usually said that sometimes this is the result of a harddrive about to go bad, but this only happens deep into a Firefox session, so I'm not sure it's related to a bad harddrive. Anyone else having these problems? My setting is to have Firefox to erase data after a session, so it's not like I'm getting a whole bunch of stuff accumulating. Are there any other settings that could be causing this?

How long from when Firefox starts does the problem begin?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

To be honest, I can only guess. Probably at least an hour before I hear it.

I'll do it again, but I've ran check disk and scan disk a few times.

CheckDisk can only check for errors on the disk, a good first start. To check the drive itself, you will need a diagnostic program that checks the drive, not the disk. I would also suggest getting your hard drive backed up JIC.

I'm not 100% sure this is the case, because these things have a way of cropping back up. But, it seems one of my extensions - Classic Theme Restorer - was out-of-date and when I updated it it seems to have solved this. Would it be possible for an extension to effect my harddrive like that?

I don't know, so keep an eye out for a few days. Let us know what happens.
