Can I go back and restore emails and folders once TB has eliminated them as a consequence of eliminating the gmail account ?
As I was not able to send emails any more since google was asking for my password but not allowing me to insert it in the procedure, I eliminated my gmail account on TB hoping to solve the problem once I had re-created the account. Because of the account elimination TB has deleted all my local emails and email folders. Can I go back and restore those ? Desperate...

I'd really really want to repair the account rather than trashing it.
If it used IMAP then your messages may still be on the server and just waiting to reappear if/when you reconnect that account.
You may still have local copies. This depends on whether or not you chose the option to remove the data when you removed the account.
The ImportExportTools add-on may help you import those messages back into Thunderbird.
Thank you Zenos. Server copies are not available as my gmail used POP. How do I find eventual local copies ? And how I control the "option to remove the data when you removed the account" ?
Thx again, Guido
The folders for a POP-connected account will be under Mail in your profile.

When you remove an account from Thunderbird, up until recently it would remove the settings but leave in place the data files that store your messages. Following requests from users who apparently wanted to eradicate all traces of the account, there are now two checkboxes which let you set it to remove settings and/or data.
If you ticked the data checkbox then it is unlikely you'll still have you old messages. :-(
