I lost access to my previous laptop because it was damaged. I have bought a new laptop and was wondering if there is a way to get all my bookmarks onto this new pc.

Assuming the hard drive on the old system was not damaged, you can have it mounted on the new computer as an external drive.

You will need a kit or a tech to help.

Isn't the point of the sync feature supposed to be so that you can access your history and bookmarks from anywhere on any computer?

more options

That is true. But the profile has to be connected to the sync for it to work. You did say; I lost access to my previous laptop

more options

Yeah, I can't use it anymore but I did have a sync account set up prior.

Ahh, you did not say so. Open the new Firefox and log into the sync. You may get an e-mail confirming the new access. Once sync starts, let it run until you are sure you have everything.

Open the Bookmarks or History Manager and watch for changes.

To begin with, Sync was not intended to be used with a solitary device; it;s purpose is to synchronize Firefox user data across multiple devices. Your data would still be on another device if Sync was used properly.

When used as a "backup medium", if the user happens to forget the Firefox Account password and / or happens to reset that password all data is wiped from the Sync server. The password which was in use with the last Sync event was used to create dual kA & kB encryption "keys" which are 64-characters (alpha/numeric) in length (one for login at the server and the other is used to encrypt the data as it sits on the Sync server) a different password would create 2 different keys which makes it impossible to login and the data couldn't be decrypted, either.

If that is what happened, sorry for the loss of your data.
