Adblock plus removed during a Firefox fix, replaced it with Adblock strict, need to restore plus

more options

Back in February, I updated Firefox on my MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.8. AdBlock Plus was moved into the Old Firefox Data folder. Not realizing this, I went to Add-ons. The closest description I thought was AdBlock Strict, which I installed.

It has annoyed me ever since. Ads load everywhere. When I click on any live link in an e-mail or a website, the popup asks Allow or Deny, I click Allow and nothing happens. Since every time I do something to this computer, I get it wrong and waste a lot of time, I have let this problem annoy me every day and go to work on another, newer MacBook Pro (without ads and with working links).

I've finally had it! I want to get the old AdBlock Plus back and ditch Strict forever.

uBlock Origin is actually the preferred adblocker, even over Adblock Plus.

This would be the last version that works: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/versions/?page=2#version-1.13.8

Keep in mind, it is very unwise to run Firefox versions as out of date as 48. It is the last version that can run on Mac 10.6, which hasn't been supported in years. I'd suggest either updating to a modern version of Mac if your computer can support it, or not using that ancient computer on the internet.

Hmm, are you sure you don't have Adblock Plus? The add-ons list you shared show it is installed but disabled. You can view and manage extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Disabled extensions generally cluster at the bottom.

Can you see the add-on that you do not want, or anything suspicious, or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

Any improvement?
