There is a strange thing with Firefox Content blocking after Firefox 70 update - when I visit some site Firefox reports that it has tracking cookies but this cookies located in the list of blocked and allowed at the same time, also I saw purple shield in adress bar, so Firefox block something on this time. But on another site I have grey shield wilth same cookies in blocked and allowed lists again. So my question is why Firefox puts same cookies in the list of blocked and allowed and why it shows me different shield in similar situation?

Hi Vitaliy1993, Where exactly do you see an Allowed List of cookies?

Can you provide a screenshot?

Also, providing links to the websites would be helpful.

Please do not include any personal information.

Thank you.

The Blocked list are 3rd party cookies

The Allowed list are Tracking cookies from the same sites

Do you have Tracking Content turned Off in Privacy & Security?

This article might explain better -

Those article doesn't explain why Firefox shows different information about blocked and allowed cookies in similar situations. They should be listed only in one section (blocked or allowed) but now they could be in both, and how users shoud understand it?

Another one bug - if I open some site in new tap with mouse right click it has grey shield, but if I update this tab it becomes purple. So why Firefox doesn't show purple shield for the first time?

The blocked 3rd party cookies are indicated by the sites protocol:

https://www.tns-counter. ru

The Tracking cookies are from the same source:

www.tns-counter. ru

Ok, but why Firefox doesn't block detected cookies from newstudio.tv?

They would be 1st party cookies and would break the site.

I've noticed, on some sites, that different cookies are sent at different times - like when you refresh the tab or advance through pages. I think they can detect if you have tracking protection turned on the first time that you visit.

Also, here's another article on Enhanced Tracking Protection https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/enhanced-tracking-protection-firefox-desktop

So why Firefox shows this cookies in the list of blocked if they not blocked?

Mozilla definitely should improve this thing - show ONLY blocked cookies in the list of blocked and ONLY allowed in the list of allowed, so as not to mislead users.

Content blocking was redesigned in Firefox version 70 and is now named Enhanced Tracking Protection. See Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop for more information about how Firefox protects you against tracking.

Content blocking is a collection of Firefox privacy features that protect you from threats and annoyances on the Web. The default includes protections against trackers that collect your browsing data across multiple websites and cryptominers. Firefox also offers protections against harmful scripts, such as malware that drains your battery. These privacy protections are mostly invisible; you’ll know they’re working when you see a shield icon on the left within your address bar.

In some cases, blocking this content makes pages load faster, but can affect the page's functionality. It’s easy to disable blocking on sites you trust. You can also customize your content blocking preferences to block more or fewer trackers.
