I have been getting this error message (see picture) since upgrading to 68. It happens even in safe mode with add-ons disabled. It appears to be related to time as it happens the first time I start thunderbird but if I restart it doesnt appear for maybe 5 min. Then it appears on first restart after that.

What IMAP server is causing you issues. Mostly I see this with outlook, but I have seen reports from Yahoo users as well.

I think its Yahoo, Yahoo wont get mail automatically on start-up like the other accounts without me selecting it then it appears fine. I removed and reinstalled the account and tried changing the number of connections nothing helps.

Do you have more than one Yahoo account in Thunderbird? I am suspicious but have no data, I think that recent changes that have streamlines startup has created a free for all environment on startup that sees calendars and all mail accounts essentially simultaneously hitting the server.

What I think is happening is Thunderbird is hitting a "you connected less than XX minutes ago, go away" from the server. But it is only a guess because I have simply been to busy to look at my own issue. It would certainly explain why it only occurs on startup.

I did file a bug, but it has received no attention, lat alone action. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1617060

Hi

This can happen if you are using both email and calendar, as Matt suggested, and also using a phone or laptop to connect which is also looking at email and calendar - the combined connections add up.

Try the 'chosen solution' here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1287326

and also changing the connections to cache setting to 1 on each device you use to connect to Yahoo services. You may also change 'how often to check for new messages' to a longer interval, like 5 minutes.

Its yahoo alright, I deleted the account from TB and had no more error messages all day. Upon re-adding the yahoo it popped right up again. I only use the yahoo account for mail, it doesnt connect to its cal or anything else. I dont use the account with any other machine or phone or anything, only this machine with TB. I also tried changing connections down to 1 .... still got the error. It also doesnt appear to check mail at all unless I select its inbox, it then picks up the mail just fine.

What anti virus program are you using. Other than defender, they usually get ever so helpful with email connections. Some are so helpful nothing works at all.

Bitdefender uninstalled, reboot and it still does it, reinstalled
