Good morning all, Following my sorcerer's apprentice manipulations (removal of programs: CCleaner, Avast, AVG + installation of Windows 10 to replace the 7), thunderbird creates "popstate" and "msgFilterRules" files. Can you tell me what this corresponds to, and how to remove existing ones but also no longer have any? Thanks in advance. WINDOWS 10 FAMILY configuration in 2004. ORANGE and GMAIL messaging in POP with THUNDERBIRD 68.12.1
"popstate" and "msgFilterRules" are important so TB to know what mails should download (as new ones) and for your filters to apply. Why would you like to remove them? What would you like to achieve?

Thank you for your reply. I haven't practiced English for a long time, so it was difficult for me to understand your explanations; can you tell me how to translate on this forum, as you did for my request? Regarding the files mentioned above, I would like to delete them as there are more and more of them. I have only had this concern for a few days, previously it did not happen. So I would like TB to create no more. Without it my folder list in TB will grow to pages and pages ...I use/used google translate and copy-paste the translation in the quote box. It is not an automatic process and I use it so other users to understand on what I've replied... :)
Ref your issue: how many such files do you have? Normally, for 2 email accounts as mentioned on your 1st post, you should have 2 of each of them (1 for each email account). Do you have more than 2/each?

Okay, I thought there was an automatic process; thanks for the information. Regarding the files that are created I have 13 popstate (including 1 created today) and 3 msgFilterRules in gmail, 2 popstate and 1 msgFilterRules in orange, and 2 msgFilterRules in local folders. I really hope I can get rid of this problem.
If you close Thunderbird, wait 10 seconds and then re-open it then will all files be created again and you will have 14popstate +3msgFilterRules in gmail? And the same also for orange/local folders - will all increase with +1?
It's really, really weird; TB had been closed for 2 hours; I find it now, it added popstates in gmail, I now have 16, but nothing else. I closed TB then reopened 10 seconds later, nothing new. It may be important to know that TB is picking up the email from gmail automatically, and that I click "pick up" to get the orange email.
Then I assume you have a software which maintain some files on the cloud (like dropbox) - and that software either doesn't allow TB to save the file with the new changes either that software create duplicate files. Could you please check if you have some cloud softwares set to sync TB folder? If you have can you try to remove from that software all folders used by TB?
Sorry but I don't have any computer knowledge; I do a bit of DIY with a lot of internet research. Also, I just installed W10 and don't know it. The cloud, I don't know anything about it, except google drive where I inserted files, because I don't want to have a synchronization. Maybe you could tell me what to do and how? If this is too tedious, tell me.
From what you are saying you do not have a cloud-sync issue... Though, would you post here your Thunderbird Troubleshooting information, then we might see if you are using the correct settings: At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button (or use the regular menu at the top), then select Help: Troubleshooting Information. Click the "Copy text to clipboard" button. Do not check the box "Include account names" Then paste (Ctrl-V), the text into your response here. We only need to see the sections down to and including the "Extensions" section, so you can delete the rest.
p.s. your post will contain some links so it will be moderated (and it will not appear right after you add it here). Please patiently wait and do not try to add again same information
Here is the copy of the information from TB :

Thanks a lot for your help.
I don't see anything strange on TB settings so you should not have this issues because of an add-on or something from TB. As you said above that's a new installation can you check what folders are set with OneDrive to sync (if any)? If neither OneDrive (which come with w10) is not set to sync then I assume some files/settings were corrupted and that's why you have so many such files...

Indeed, I had vaguely thought that ONEDRIVE could disrupt my habits; It seems to me that I did not validate anything of this application, during the installation of Windows 10. However, I get notifications every day to update Onedrive's privacy policy. So I'll try to turn it off, because at the moment I don't see the use of it for me. I am concerned, however, that this will erase files that I want to save to my hard drive, especially emails that I have moved to my local folders in TB. Can you tell me if there is a way to see that they are on my hard drive, before disabling Onedrive?
