When using the the web browser, I used to be able to click on a link such as a vcard and it would automatically open outlook. Now it wants to save it to my disc. what is the setting for this. the same goes for a link that would open excel automatically but again it wants to save it first.

I believe you are referring to the changes introduced with version 98. You may need to change your settings in Settings > General > Applications. Even so, generally speaking, everything is downloaded even if you only want to open it.
