Get bookmarks search to display matching folders as well as bookmarks

The native FF bookmarks search function only returns bookmarks that match the search term. How can I get it to also return folders that match? That is, if my bookmarks contain both a folder and a page whose name includes the word "climate", I need it to show me both of them when I search on "climate". Right now, that search returns only the page. Is there a setting or something that will make it return both?

The "Bookmark Search Plus 2" add-on does return both folders and pages. But it has another limitation: It doesn't have an "Edit Folder" or an "Edit Bookmark" function. So if I want to find a folder with search and then edit its name, I can't do it with either the add-on or the native bookmarks browser.

Directly searching for a folder is not possible, but you can possibly search for a bookmark in this folder and use "Show in Folder". In Firefox 96+ you can right-click a bookmark search/query/recent result list and click "Show in Folder" to locate this bookmark in the folder list.

In the bookmarks sidebar and in the left (tree) panel in the Library you can set focus to the treechildren area with the bookmarks and then quickly press the first keys to jump to a folder. The folder needs to be visible (expanded) and not collapsed to make this work and you likely only can type the first two letters fast enough. Repeat this to get to the next result.

I'm disappointed. Searching for a folder by name, and then being able to edit the bookmarks within it, is something I do maybe a dozen times a day. The workarounds you suggest (and the ones I've thought of) just don't work with a use-case that happens that often. I've been in the process of experimentally migrating from Chrome to Firefox because FF seemed to support bookmarks better for us heavy users of bookmarks. Now I'm reconsidering the move.

Two more possibilities occur to me – maybe you could comment on them:

  1. Numbered list item Enhance the "Bookmark Search Plus 2" add-on to support editing folders and bookmarks. Of course, the developer of that add-on would be the one to do that. But I'm wondering if there is some prohibition built into FF against add-ons doing this editing.
  2. Numbered list item Is there another bookmarks add-on that can both search folders and enable editing of bookmarks?

Final Q: Is there a place to submit FF enhancement requests? Or does Mozilla monitor this forum for that purpose?

Yes! If you use

Help > Share Ideas and Feedback...

you should find it eventually. Here is an example of an idea post you can vote up and add comments to:

Thanks, @jscher2000! I've up-voted and commented on the request you mentioned, which seems to be exactly the same as mine.

You could add a dummy bookmark as the first entry with the folder name for folders you frequently need to access and search for this bookmark and use "Show in Folder". In a long past you could give a separator a label.
