CPU 100% waiting on video
I frequently watch news videos. When the connection is slow, at least one CPU core to 100%. I am extremely confused why. Causing a core to go to 100% isn't going to speed up the download. That's a network issue.

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to the Firefox Support Forum with your question. I understand that you are experiencing high CPU usage when watching news videos on Firefox, particularly when the connection is slow. I can provide some insights to help you troubleshoot this issue.
High CPU usage during video playback can occur due to various reasons. Here are a few suggestions to address this problem:
Update Firefox: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Firefox. Newer versions often include performance improvements and bug fixes that can help with CPU usage.
Clear cache and cookies: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can help optimize performance. To do this, go to the Firefox menu, select "Preferences" (or "Options" on Windows), navigate to the "Privacy & Security" tab, and click on "Clear Data."
Disable hardware acceleration: Sometimes, enabling hardware acceleration can cause issues with certain graphics cards or drivers. You can disable hardware acceleration by going to the Firefox menu, selecting "Preferences" (or "Options" on Windows), navigating to the "General" tab, and unchecking the box next to "Use recommended performance settings."
Check for conflicting extensions: Some Firefox extensions or add-ons may conflict with video playback, leading to high CPU usage. Try disabling any extensions you have installed and see if the issue persists.
Test with a different profile: Creating a new Firefox profile can help determine if the issue is related to your current profile or settings. You can create a new profile by running Firefox with the command "firefox -P" in the Run dialog (Windows) or terminal (Linux). From there, you can create a new profile and test video playback.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, please provide more information about your system configuration, such as the version of Linux you are using and any specific video-related settings or extensions you have enabled. This will help us further investigate the problem and provide more targeted assistance.
I hope these suggestions help in resolving the high CPU usage during video playback. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. Our community of volunteers is here to help.
