Bookmarks can't be deleted
I've deleted the "places" files & restored the bookmarks I want to keep, but it didn't work. The deleted bookmarks are still listed and new ones I've added are missing. I've had the same extensions on here for a long time and haven't made any other changes so that's not the problem. I've tried some of the other solutions in the articles, but nothing works.

Are you able to explain in a bit more detail exactly what you are trying to do. Firefox will try to recreate the file places.sqlite and it is not a standard procedure to delete that file. Which articles and solutions are you looking at, and what is your original problem ?
Are you just trying to delete bookmarks or are you having other problems. Note by default firefox will keep 10 backup copies of the bookmarks etc. although that may be changed in the prefs.
Sorry for the brief question. For some reason ff just started doing what I described about not being able to delete bookmarks and add new ones. I read on here where another person recently has the same problem and I tried some of the solutions that were offered. I deleted the Places files because the articles said it might be corrupted. The bookmarks I've deleted & the new ones I've added that are missing, only happens after I reboot my pc, not when I close the browser. This all started out of the blue a few days ago. I don't know if its a problem with my pc or just ff. This has never happened before.
You can try to restore the bookmarks from an earlier backup.
If you delete places.sqlite then Firefox tries to restore the bookmarks from the most recent backup as found in the bookmarkbackups folder.
If that last backup is already corrupted somehow then that import might fail.
So you can try to restore an older backup manually via the library or move the latest backup from the bookmarkbackups to another folder to keep it for backup.
Repeat that to see if one of them works.
You need to remove places.sqlite with Firefox closed just to be sure that the current places.sqlite file isn't interfering.
Thank you for the reply cor-el. I will give it a try. I've backed up the bookmarks I want to keep to a cd and will delete the places file one more time and restore the backup. Hopefully that will work.
