My bookmarks library is empty and I cannot restore from my backups. How else can I replace my bookmarks?

I ran an application "SpeedItUp" that took 19-20 hrs. to run. Afterwards I have no bookmarks and less than half of my passwords. The bookmarks will not restore from backups and Will not allow me the import from other browsers or HTML files. Although I can see and open my backups and see that they are there. I get the warning about overwriting my bookmarks and then nothing. I have tried other dates a well. Is there any other way to copy them and paste in profile?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
