When I block image loading from the preferences, firefox remains busy and never reports that loading is finished. When images are not blocked, the page gets loaded and firefox rests. I provided one such url, but there are other sites that causes this.

I noticed this issue when I was using selenium webdriver extension. For these sites the get method never returns. I am certain that it is not about selenium driver.

How to create this on Mac:

Turn off image loading (Firefox-Preferences-Content- Uncheck load images automatically) Go to http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/10/niggerhead_herman_cain_rick_perry.html

Firefox will remain busy forever. I wanted to ask for your guidance.

I am not a Mac user so maybe i can't reproduce the problem. Try the following:

-> Clear Cookies & Cache

-> Clear the Network Cache

-> Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

-> Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

Check and tell if its working.

It is not about cookies. It is not specific to mac version of firefox. The same happens if you block images on linux as well. If you unblock, the page will load fine, otherwise FF keeps working.

I am on Win XP. No problems here.

I don't have XP, but you might install VirtualBox and then ubuntu to see that this is happening indeed. Are you sure you are testing with the url I provided: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/10/niggerhead_herman_cain_rick_perry.html

And still you don't see that icon keeps spinning?

hmm you are right. Although the page appears to be fully loaded, the icon still keeps spinning. Strange.

Maybe you should not worry about it that much. its happening only on that website. Maybe the problem is on the Website's end. IF you still want to dig deeper, best is to inquire from the website's developers about this. And don't forget to tell them that the icon keeps spinning only on their website.

Which are the other websites on which this problem is also appearing ??

Thanks for confirming. Unfortunately I cannot ignore, and have to figure out the main cause.

Another example is washingtonpost. It is a comment page, so make sure you copy the whole url.

I noticed these two sites are using echo server (http://aboutecho.com/) But Google Chrome handles these pages without any issue, so I tend to believe FF is the one doing something wrong here.

I just Disabled my Adblock plus add-on and now all the 3 links are loading fine and full without the icon spinning (the 3rd link was loading before disabling the add-on as well).

Disable (if you have installed) content blocking add-ons (e.g. Adblock PLus, NoScript, etc.). Perform the suggestions mentioned in the 3rd link provided in my first reply.

Check and tell if its working while using Firefox Safe Mode.

Third link was just a reference to the service the two sites nymag and wpost have in common.

I don't have any ad blocker, but I tried in safe mode and still having the same issue. Can someone point me to a doc about how to check firefox log messages? Maybe I can track it from there.

Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

-> Basic Troubleshooting - Make a New Profile

IF that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.

-> Recover important data from an old profile

Check and tell if its working.
