I keep having to reset Firefox, my address bar search won't work without constant resetting in about;config

I had to re-install all my programs and for some reason I am having problems adding and keeping my address bar search option as well as keeping Google my search engine. I have deleted Yahoo 4 times in the search box and I have gone into about:config to alter the search engine and address bar search each time I start up Firefox. It won't stay put each day. Can anyone help with this?
