Firefox updated itself to 17.0.1 and the toolbars disappeared. The icons for the Noscript & Fireshot do not appear nor can they be found in the menu system, although they do appear in the Add-ons manager. If they are not compatible, how can I return to the previous version of Firefox?

Yes, that does work. I was slow to do that because I wasn't sure how many settings I would lose. But it did the trick. Thanks.

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

Sorry, these did not fix the problem. There appears to be no way to restore the other toolbars in Firefox 17.0.1. It is also not very stable and has frozen several times. I think I will uninstall Firefox and try Chrome instead.

Did you try to delete the localstore.rdf file?

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

You can try to reset Firefox.

If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, passwords, cookies, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).

You can recover more data from the old profile (be cautious with doing that).

Unfortunately that didn't work either.

So, it doesn't even work in a new profile?
