why does Firefox pretend to be using resources on a removable drive when it isn't?
Frequently, and on more than one Macintosh computer, I have a portable drive connected that I take home with me at the end of the day. It doesn't matter whether it's connected via USB or Firewire, if FireFox is running, I cannot unmount the drive until I quit Firefox. No other browsers that may be running behave this way.

Are there any fonts installed on that drive or are there references to it in personal data like having saved files to it or a file picker window that opens to that drive?
Move all User fonts in Font Book to Computer fonts.
- Launch Font Book (/Applications/Utilities/)
- Open Font Book > Preferences
- Deselect: "Automatic Font Activation"
- Set the "Default Install Location" for fonts to "Computer"
- Select all User fonts
- Move the selected User fonts to Computer fonts
- Remove all duplicate fonts in Computer fonts
I don't use Font Book; I use FontExplorer X Pro. Deactivating fonts just to make the browser happy is not an option - I do graphic design. And there are NO fonts being referenced on the portable drive, unless FireFox has some wild capability to do so on its own.
I have set my fonts up very carefully within the system and this should not be an issue.
