Hi folks, my Firefox is crashing permanently! I have disabled my plugins, but the problem is arising again and again. <pre><nowiki>http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/d9d1e9d1-90a7-45c3-83b1-08bc62130415 http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/9bca6fb2-a8d7-42db-98bf-6dfb92130415 http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/f5a9d0e1-7691-4209-9f9a-b7c6f2130415 http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/23b59acf-13dd-469e-8d8b-072772130414 http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1c0217a3-1961-4461-95cd-c20402130413</nowiki></pre>

Its empty crash report.

Start your windows in safe mode and check it out...

In safe mode it´s commented as empty. But in regular mode I´m getting this headline: Firefox 20.0 Crash Report [@ npswf32_11_6_602_180.dll@0x3385bd ].

Is it helpful for you? I appreciate you help very much.

That is a crash report about the Flash Player plugin.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

I have followed your advices completely – it´s still crashing!

Is the crash signature still the same or similar (i.e. contains the Flash plugin file npswf32)?

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have this format:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open this page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

I had a problem with Facebook today. The problem with mine was Adblock Plus 2.2.3 for the past couple of days. Once I disabled it it worked fine.

No, the crash signature is not the same.

Here are some IDs you asked for:

Well, here some screenshots "describing" symptoms also arising sometime before a crash ...

Me too, same problem. FireFox crashes from the beginning.

Reinstall did the trick. Don't know what went wrong.

I do know it crashed after upgrading Adobe Flash. So I first removed Flash and Reader, before reinstalling.

Hi Timotheus,

thanks for your help! What do you mean by "reinstall"? Completely with deleleting and rebuilding profile or completely and keeping the profile? I am in love with my profile and not keen on throwing it away ;-)

Hi Welpenmetzger,

No, just uninstall Firefox, restart your pc (if wanted, not needed) and reinstall Firefox with latest version. Some software conflict has appeared. If not working, then uninstall Firefox, uninstall Flash player and reinstall Firefox, then reinstall Flash player. I think I had a conflict there myself, somewhere.

Just make sure you don't tick the option to delete your profile. Firefox uninstall offers this as an option, standard off.

With kind regards, Timo

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can also check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

After I updating from FF 19 to 20 -- and making no other changes except updating Plugins -- I began having frequent Firefox crashes and occasional freezes (the latter typically occurred when shifting from one embedded Flash video to another).

Anyway, in some post about crashes in an older version I saw someone suggest disabling the Shockwave for Director plug-in. Seems like that may have done the trick for me, as I've gone from 4-6 crashes/freezes a day to zero in the three days since I've disabled Shockwave for Director. And disabling that plugin doesn't seem to have affected any functionality.
