hello fred, you can create a bookmark on your home-screen that will directly open the browser on a site of your choosing: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-bookmarks-firefox-android#w_how-do-i-add-a-bookmark-to-my-devices-home-screen_2
Also, if you're wanting to jump straight to searching when you start Firefox, you should know that you can type searches straight into the address bar — it'll even allow you to use Google Suggest without having to load a page.
