The new update ruins firefox for me. I think I will be changing browsers.
The layout is horrible, my favorites tabs are gone. You've completely changed my browsing experience that I've perfected for who knows how long. I tried the classic restoration tool, it is too difficult to use I don't want to restore back to the very first firefox browser, I just want it to look like it did yesterday.

Hi Joshsh,
Sorry you are having problems.
Regarding the general changes to Firefox I will add a repeat of another recent post I made.
I am wondering what is meant by
my favorites tabs are gone
If by that you mean bookmarks or bookmarks on the bookmarks bar those should not have disappeared.
If you are talking about open browser Tabs or open Windows, they should also not be lost on an update, although we are aware that does sometimes occur.
You could try looking in your History for recently closed tabs and recently closed windows.
- NewMenu Button -> History -> Restore Closed Windows / Closed Tabs
Annoyingly it looks as if potentially the two items may now be widely separated and so not as easy to find as on the old menu bar.or Firefox Button
If that does not help it is probably wise to immediately backup your Firefox profile. That will increase the chances we can assist you in restoring information.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, go to the Help menu and select Submit Feedback. That info gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues. That data is then presented in the weekly Firefox delivery meeting.
Do you have a specific problem with the update that you'd like help finding a solution for?

Changes General info
I do wish Firefox would give users a direct warning at least a week or so ahead of such drastic changes it would at least give you an opportunity to read up on what is about to happen. Instead of updating and only then providing information.
Firefox has always been customisable and remains so.
I am nothing to do with the design team, I am just a fellow Firefox user, but as you ask what they were thinking some articles
- Learn more about the design of the new Firefox version 29
- Get started with Firefox - An overview of the main features
- Firefox release notes - What's New and Known Issues
Maybe as more advanced users we do not like an over simplified Firefox, but I guess it needs to be designed for the majority and also looking for compatibility and ease of use on other devices. Other programs or applications looking similar to one another is probably at least in part due to similar goals in function and ease of use leading to a convergence in feature sets.

I would not recommend downgrading Firefox. Unsupported versions are not secure. You increase risks to your System and Personal data by using insecure software. When security fixes are released and publicised that also publicises the potential exploits.
