I click on the icon, T-bird opens, mail downloads without my password. This is a recent development and seemed to begin suddenly. I've always kept a password, as this is a shared computer. I've tried resetting password, closing program and relaunching, still no password required. Also tried closing T-bird and restarting computer. Still no password required.

You probably told Thunderbird to remember your password.

I didn't change security settings, and never save passwords so am doubtful, but we had system wide shut down w/ virus a couple weeks back, so perhaps when IT rebooted everyone, something changed. At any rate, if this is the problem, how do I tell it not to remember my password?

If there's a saved password you'd need to delete it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_and_changing_email_passwords
