How do I reset these tabs to appear at the bottom of the screen? I notice that when I expand the width of the sidebar all of my desktop icons get scrambled to different locations and I have to manually put them back where they were .

Chosen solution

You should be able to drag the Windows Task bar back to its position at the bottom of the screen. Best is to lock the Task bar via the right-click context menu to avoid such an accidental move.
