How can I reduce the 30 seconds Firefox 37.0.2 takes to open a blank page?

I'm running Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Java 8 Update 45, Java 8 Update 45 (64-bit), Flash Player 17, Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10), Avast! (2015.10.2.2215). Last week, opening a blank Firefox page took about 2 seconds. During my weekly software check this week, Firefox showed there was an update for Adobe Reader. That was curious because Adobe Reader showed no updates available. Nevertheless, I clicked on the Firefox update button and discovered Adobe Reader DC was available. I loaded Adobe Reader DC, which wiped-out Adobe Reader XI. Immediately, Adobe Reader DC needed 6 different pass-through's. I only need Adobe Reader to open PDF files; nothing more. I unloaded Adobe Reader DC and reloaded Adobe Reader XI. Now opening a blank Firefox page takes 30 seconds. First, the whirlpool (i.e. busy) appears for 5 seconds and then disappears. I must wait another 25 seconds before the Firefox window appears. If I already have a Firefox window open, then the next Firefox window opens in 2 seconds. = I restored my system to 2 weeks ago – didn't help. = I reset Firefox – didn't help = I unloaded Firefox through Programs & Features, removing all the Mozilla sub-directories. I then loaded a completely new Firefox – didn't help. Any thoughts? This same 30 second delay also happens to Internet Explorer.

I think you have been had. Firefox would not know that anything needs updating except its own programs, and add-ons.

Remove what ever you installed, then go back to Adobe.com and ONLY get programs from trusted web sites or the web site of the owner of the program.

If you ever have a question about any updates, check that programs web site.
