Some folders in bookmarks won't expand?

Why do some sub-folders in bookmarks not expand and show what is in the folder? Some work fine, while others don't. It doesn't seem to matter if they have 5 websites bookmarked within or 25. Some simply work, while others don't. The work around is to use "Show All Bookmarks" but that defeats the whole purpose of bookmarks in the first place.

Hi Snively, which of the following does this problem affect:

  • Bookmarks menu on the top menu bar
  • Bookmarks menu displayed using the button on the main toolbar (looks a bit like a clipboard, to the right of the star)
  • Bookmarks sidebar -- you can open that using either
    • Command+b (if the page doesn't intercept it)
    • View menu > Sidebar > Bookmarks

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Then follow the directions.

It affects the Bookmarks menu on the top menu bar.

I did run the program but it didn't fix the problem.

It does work fine using the sidebar. It just seems to be the top menu bar.

Because the top menu bar is under operating system control on the Mac, I have occasionally seen suggestions to remove the

~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist

file but unfortunately, I don't know the details of how that might help or how best to do it.

Thank you. I tried that too. No luck. I do greatly appreciate the ideas.
