My Tower Computer Server settings are different from my Laptop. I would like advise as to best settings. My E mail provider is BT Yahoo My Tower settings are:- Server Settings Server Type IMAP Server Name imap.btinternet.com User Name :- My full name Port 143, Default 143 Connection Security None Authorization :- Password transmitted insecurely

Outgoing Server (SMTP) Setting My Name :- smtp.btinternet.com(default) Detail of Selected Server :- not specified Server name smtp.btinternet.com Port 587 User Name :- my name Authorization:- password transmitted insecurely Connection security none

Laptop settings are as follows:- Server Settings Server type IMAP Server name mail.btinternet.com User Name :- my e mail address Port 993 Default 993 Connection security SSL/TLS Authorization :- normal password

Outgoing Server (SMTP) BT Mail - mail.btinternet.com Details of selected server Description BT Mail Server name mail.btinternet.com Port 465 User Name :- My e mail address Authorization:- Normal Password Connection Security SSL/TLS

Perhaps a simple answer could be, should I change the Laptop settings to match the tower? Or is it more complicated than that?

If you are going to match settings use the laptop. It uses secure ports vs the desktop's insecure ports.

This is assuming that both setups work. The best setting are the one's that work. Secure is always better.

I would accept that "Secure is always better" But I'm a novice at this & don't want to change settings & then find problems. Is there any way you could give line by line advise?

I should say that I'm pretty certain both of the current settings work. I've sent messages to myself & they get through.

But on the Laptop I've had a few error messages (UID Fetch) which I can't find reason for.

Your provider configures their servers. If you need more advice, ask them.
