Sorry for the odd question, but sometimes when I boot firefox a pop up appears saying that updates are installing and that I need to wait a moment. The symbol that appears with it on the taskbar are two grey arrows circling each other. I haven't seen this until a while into I've started using firefox and I'm paranoid as to whether or not it is legit. Thanks.

Firefox 57 has had two updates since mid-November, numbered 57.0.1 and 57.0.2. If you are getting more frequent updates, it may be something else.

To check when Firefox thinks it updated, you can try a button on the Troubleshooting Information page Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, look for the "Update History" row and click the "Show Update History" button. Does that seem to correspond to what you've been seeing?

Three updates as 57.0.3 (and 52.5.3esr) was released today for to fix a crash reporting issue.

Though for Mac and Linux users the 57.0.2 was not needed.
