Why Are Deleted Bookmarks Reappearing?
Recently I have been unable to permanently delete bookmarks from Firefox, a browser used only on my laptops.
Is there a solution for this annoying glitch?
Hope someone can come to the rescue :)

Thank you to everyone who so kindly offered suggestions, I appreciated your kindness and helpful advice. Having cleared out the cache etc and re-installed Firefox it seems the issue has been resolved, should it reappear I hope you may not mind if I post seeking help. Thanks again.

It's possible your Firefox Sync data is corrupt. Clearing the data from Mozilla Firefox's servers and starting clean is an easy way to fix this.
Are you using sync? Or bookmark add-ons/programs?
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save
Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
