I use the search bar, not the address bar. Every time I open a new tab to search with, Firefox will open another tab immediately after I press enter to search.

hi, please enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named browser.search.openintab. make sure that it's set to false - its default value.
