Hi,

I'm trying to setup an existing gmail account using POP, and thunderbird is not letting me do it. When I try to add the account online, it keeps displaying error "thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account". I followed the steps at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1232585 to try to add it offline, but it doesn't work either, the "Set Up an Existing Email Account" dialog box has no Done button, if I click "Advanced config" button, it displays "Incoming server already exists" error.

Note "Set Up an Existing Email Account" dialog box default to IMAP every time I try to add the account, so each time I needed to change it to POP.

Thanks.

Have you logged onto gmail webmail account and selected to use POP ? Whilst logged into webmail account , have you selected to use the option called 'less secure apps' ? If no, then gmail is deliberately blocking you. So select the 'less secure apps' option and then create mail account in thunderbird. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en

Yes, TB does default to searching for IMAP, but you can click on 'Manual Config' button and swap it over to POP. Note : user name is the full gmail email address.
