I copied some cells from Microsoft Excel, and pasted them into a Thunderbird HTML composition window. Then I decided to delete the table, but I cannot figure out how to delete it.

it can be a bit tricky unless you know how.

Open the format menu (if you do not have a menu bar press F10 on the keyboard and one will be displayed.) then table then delete and finally choose table.
